This year marks the 100th anniversary of the death of the British composer and music educator Sir Hubert Parry, best known for ‘Jerusalem’, the anthem of the Women’s Institute and the Commonwealth Games.
What is less well known is that Sir Hubert Parry was born in Bournemouth and christened in St Peter’s Church. Later in life he returned to Bournemouth to conduct the Bournemouth Municipal Orchestra, today the esteemed Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
